2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

My words follow:

He doesn't go back on His promises like some humans do; He keeps His word; He can be trusted always. He has an enormous amount of patience (longsuffering) with us; He doesn't want to have to destroy anyone in the afterlife (He loves us all). He will wait and see how many come to the point in this flesh life where they finally realize they must repent of their sin (required to attain eternal life); He wants all to live eternally. Just look around you and it becomes really obvious why He displays an infinite amount of patience with us humans. I would like to suggest that a display of patience is something we can all benefit from; God's patience with us is “the” prime example to try and follow and display toward others.
