ABB Inc., in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Senior Proposal Engineer / Technologist (Body-in-White) to join our Robotics and Motion team, the first major global industrial robotics manufacturer to produce robots in the United States. The Senior Proposal Engineer / Technologist must effectively process, propose, and estimate order requirements to customer specifications. Responsibility includes customer interface and effectively translating customer requirements into effective and executable proposals, incorporating ABB Robotic and Body in White FlexLean standard products, which meet or exceed all stakeholder expectations.

Qualified candidates must possess leadership attributes, knowledge within Body-in-White (BiW) process and proposal development, and have customer interface qualities.

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Interface with sales team to evaluate potential opportunities within the BiW applications and product areas.

* Prepare preliminary bid/no-bid evaluations for routine presentation and buy-in with the BIW management team.

* Develop BiW proposals and sales strategy for bid opportunities.

* Develop process, bid and proposal execution plan and participate in its management and implementation.

* Develop the proposal package and ensure completeness.

* Develop the costing of the project and ensure its accuracy and completeness.

* Secure costing elements engineering, simulations, OLP's, outside design & build and subcontracts.

* Interface with ABB BiW factory product teams in China.

* Support the salesperson in the interfacing with the customer.

* Ensure compliance with ABB proposal processes and risk reviews.

* Conduct final proposal risk reviews.

* Support the salesperson in presenting the proposal and clarifying as required to secure the award.

* Interface with the sales manager and team to set upfront targets and strategies to support the overall sales volume.

* Interface with the proposal manager to ensure communication of target strategies, progress, road blocks, schedules and supporting requirements.

* Above tasks are in support of 10 to 20 must of bidding activity per year directly associated with this position.



* High School Diploma or GED with 12 years in proposals, designing, development, engineering, robotics, automated solutions, or metal fabrication OR

* Associate's Degree with 10 years in proposals, designing, development, engineering, robotics, automated solutions, or metal fabrication OR

* Bachelor's Degree preferred with 8 years in proposals, designing, development, engineering, robotics, automated solutions, or metal fabrication OR

* Master's Degree preferred with 6 years in proposals, designing, development, engineering, robotics, automated solutions, or metal fabrication OR


* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

* 8+ years engineering / proposal knowledge of Body in White processes and related automation

* 3+ years of Body in White proposal development and estimating experience

* Previous experience having to develop, manage, and execute proposal strategies and implementation plans

* Knowledge of Body in White project management processes

* Strong presentation and negotiating skills

* Experience having to develop, manage and execute proposal strategies and implementation plans

* AutoCAD 2012 preferred

* Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Lotus Notes

* Strong ethical nature and SOX compliance awareness

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Candidates must have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
