Come join us on our journey to create solutions for a sustainable future!Where the Chemistry Happens…We are seeking a Senior Engineer I, Safety Engineering to support Research & Development and the Operating Divisions of our Chemical and Process Engineering group in the field of Safety Engineering.This R&D group maintains technological leadership by developing innovative solutions for BASF operations, improving methods for future developments, and advancing new technologies.Senior Engineer I, Safety Engineering (1700538)You will provide research and development services as well as process engineering services for BASF investment activities. You will manage complex projects with a focus on innovation for the Worldwide BASF Group, but the main focus will be in North America. You will join a global team of Safety experts.Formula for Success: You Will…- Execute complex projects individually or in a team for projects that require a high level of specialized know-how and broad experience; follow global process engineering design rules & best practices and document results according to company standards; identify new projects and actively explore possibilities of optimization in projects.- Manage full range of projects and independently interact with stakeholders/customers (e.g. plant manager, process manager, others) to clarify needs.- Participate in the development of the team’s area of expertise, and initiate and participate in research projects.- Actively broaden your own knowledge in your field of expertise and expand your repertoire of methods.- Support know-how transfer within the team (i.e. mentoring of less experienced team members).- Assume a radar function by observing and evaluating new methods, market trends and the activities of competitors (patents, literature).- Potentially supervise other professionals and lab technicians and act as a functional lead of a virtual team.- Comply with EHS rules. Working for a large, global organization, you’ll have a chance to grow professionally and personally, expand your network and build a rewarding and dynamic career.Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalentIngredients for Success: What We Look for in You…- PhD in chemical engineering , chemistry or mechanical engineering or an MS degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or mechanical engineering with 3 years related experience, or a BS degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or mechanical engineering with 5 years related experience.- Related experience should be in safety or fluid process engineering with significant experience in handling two-phase flow phenomena. This includes a solid theoretical understanding and the ability to design, supervision and analysis results of lab experiments.- Experience in safety engineering shall involve several key areas preferably design, evaluation and verification of complex overpressure protection systems. Additionally, experience in the assessment of chemical reactions, classification of substances, dispersion modeling, explosion characterization, consequence analysis and other aspects of experimental safety testing would be beneficial.- Methodological background for problem identification and solving problems with long term sustainable solutions as well as experience in supervising lab experiments.- Demonstrated project management skills required.- Ability to effectively and successfully work in teams.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to successfully interact with internal and external customers.Primary Location: US-MI-WyandotteFunction: REDE - Research & DevelopmentJob Type: StandardShift: Day JobOrganization: RCC-Heterogeneous Catalysis.
