Job Description
Simmers Crane Design and Services is a leading, highly technical and growing overhead crane service company. We specialize in inspecting, repairing, upgrading and maintaining overhead cranes. We are searching for a highly motivated industrial field service technician for the Dearborn, MI location. We are a fast paced, heavily customer service based, organization. We work in many different industries such as steel, automotive, power generation, etc. .
Job Responsibilities:
:Troubleshooting, repairing, installing and modifying overhead crane systems.
:Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment at customer owned facilities such as steel mills, auto manufacturing plants, foundries, large machine builders and steel processing facilities.
:Work independently, or as part of a crew, to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems with equipment in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities.
:Identify needed parts, repair procedures, communicate with the customer, interface with our engineering department and perform the repair.
:Responsible for documentation of hours, services performed, writing service acknowledgements and working with computers.
:Perform documented safety inspections of specific types of equipment in keeping with OSHA guidelines.
:You will be trained to perform your duties in compliance with NFPA 70E Arc Flash Protection requirements.
:Motor control experience on systems with AC or DC power is necessary.
:HS Diploma or GED
:At least 3 years in an industrial environment or similar Military Experience.
:Skills and experience in welding, electrical and mechanical maintenance
:Experience as an ironworker, millwright or facilities maintenance is preferred
:Team approach to problem solving
:Computer literate; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
:Must be eligible to work and free of any non:competition agreements.
:Must be able to pass drug screen and background check.
:Ability to interface with internal and external customers
:Travel Required
:Ability to work inside, outside in all types of weather, and work from heights

Simmers Crane Design and Services Company was founded in 1958 by Charles Simmers, former Chief Engineer with Koppers Co. and Vice President of Engineering with Morgan Engineering Company. Mr. Simmers recognized the need for a specialty engineering group to serve the steel industry, and was able to staff his group with engineering personnel from major crane and mill builders.
Initially providing engineering services only, Simmers became a Division of Pollock Research and Design, Inc. in 1966 and has expanded its capabilities to include complete engineering services, field services, and materials for cranes, weight handling, mill, special, and category A nuclear equipment.
Providing services both domestically and internationally, Simmers, along with its sister division Reading Crane and Engineering Co., is an OEM supplier.
Simmers is accredited by the U.S. Department of Labor to inspect, test, and certify Maritime shore based material handling devices such as cranes, derricks, spouts, etc. which require certification under Federal regulation 29 CFR Part 1918.
Industries served include: Steel, Heavy Fabrication, Aluminum, Specialty Metals, Utility (Fossil Fuel, Hydro and Nuclear Plants), Paper, Construction, Automotive, Mining and Dockside Material Handling.
